Question:
I have a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu V6. My engine won't even crank when I turn the ignition, and then the check engine light stays on. What is the problem?
Answer:
Most likely you need to replace the battery. Even if the lights and radio comes on because the starter requires more amperage than they do so it won't turn the engine over. The most common cause of a no start is the battery!
If the battery is new, then you will have to test for battery voltage at the "s" terminal on the starter while someone holds the key in the start position. If it has battery voltage, you will need to have the starter replaced.
The check engine light is supposed to come on, this is normal. It will go out once the car starts.
