I bought a rebuilt A/C Compressor

Question:
I have a 1984 Chevy Corvette and I bought a rebuilt A/C for it but there is a switch or some kind of wire that plugs into it that the new A/C is blocking off. My friend had this happen to his and said he just left that wire disconnected. Is that what I need to do?

Answer:
If you are talking about the pressure switch in the back of the compressor, it is held in place by a snap ring. The new compressor should have a plug in the same hole in the same spot that the switch is located on the old compressor. Just remove the plug and swap the switch from the old compressor to the new compressor. It is put there for safety reasons, in case of a pressure problem with the system.

AC cold air turns warm after ....

Question:
My 2003 Honda Accord LX, 4 cyl, auto ac will function properly on humid days until I drive over rumble stripes or hit a bump in the road. Then the blowing air warms up as if the AC switch was turned off. Sometimes if I drive over another bump or reflector in the road, it starts blowing cold air again. Other times it won''t blow cold air until the car is turned off for a few minutes. The dealership has replaced a relay switch but it didn''t fix the problem.
The radio has been replaced in this car. Obviously we don''t know if this is relevant or not but the problem didn''t occur until several months after the dash was pulled to replace the radio.

Answer:
A couple things can cause this, the relay is one and sounds like your dealership has addressed this. Another common thing that causes this but is often overlooked is the air gap in the A/C clutch. As the air gap increases when it's hot a bump or shock to the car can cause the gap to be too much and then A/C compressor shuts off. If compressor is allowed to cool then the gap decreases again and it will work.

The good news is the gap is easy to check without taking the compressor off the car or anything. With a feeler gauge and the spec. in the book a tech can see if it's out of range. Another way to check for this is to hit the outside of the clutch on the A/C compressor when it shuts off again and see if the compressor starts working again. If so the air gap is out of spec.

Engine fans not comming on. Overheating Ford Focus

I had problem with my cooling system. After I traced out, I found out that my cooling fan is not working properly. At first, I thought it didn't work at all. But after testing the relay, it is in fact, working. So I went to the Temp Sensor, thinking it has to be the problem. But the Auto Shop was unable to even locate the sensor, they really sucks. However, now I just notice it wasn't even the sensor's fault. The cooling fan will only turn on when the AC is on. And it will turn off as well. That indicates that the sensor gotta be working; if not the fan should either stay on or off the whole time/ it shouldn't cycle if it is not working. I am not really a electrical guy. Can any of you guys tell me where the problem is? I am suspecting the electrical wirings between the cooling system and the ac system are theultimate blame. Am I right?

Answer:
I have good news for you. The problem you describe, and in EXACTLY the way you've described it, sounds like your cooling fan blower resistor has burned out. This is NOT to be confused with your car's climate control blower resistor pertaining to the four speed settings. What is probably happening is you are not getting any LOW speed cooling fan operation, when commanded by the PCM. There are two cooling fans, as others have already posted. Each cooling fan has a two wire pigtail connector to it. Look BETWEEN the two cooling fans for a two wire connector exactly identical to the ones plugged into the cooling fan motors. This will be plugged into the resistor. To disconnect it, simply DEPRESS the metal clip, and pull to remove. Look for a burned out connector, as well as the resistor it plugs into. To repair this problem, you need to go to your local Ford dealer parts department to purchase the blower resistor and pigtail connector. Both of these parts are very inexpensive, even from the dealer. It is also EXTREMELY common on your car. Please keep me informed of your findings. Hope this helps.

Found this answer on Yahoo answers and was Dead On !!! Melted plug and all. Ordered parts from ford and all is well.

Ford's $2.1 billion profit may be year's best as costs begin to rise

Ford Motor Co.'s first-quarter profit of $2.1 billion may be as good as it gets this year as the automaker faces rising costs to introduce new models.

Today's earnings report came with a plan to boost second-quarter production and spurred CEO Alan Mulally to forecast a “solid” 2010 profit, a year ahead of his previous prediction. Future quarters may not be as strong, CFO Lewis Booth said today.

“It would be unwise to think of $2 billion as a running rate,” Booth told reporters. “We've got a lot of new product launches, so you'll see some launch expense and we do expect some headwinds from commodities” prices.

The executives cited challenges such as a “fragile” economy after posting a fourth straight quarter of net income, the longest streak since 2005. Booth said the Ford Motor Credit unit was unlikely to “keep up the pace” for the rest of the year.

“The first quarter could turn out to be their best,” said Joe Phillippi, president of AutoTrends Consulting in Short Hills, New Jersey. “The landscape might become more competitive as Toyota fights its way back and GM launches a lot of new products.”

Ford said second-quarter production in North America will be 625,000 vehicles, a 5 percent increase from the plan announced March 2. Output will rise 39 percent compared with a year earlier.

Ford benefited from a recovering auto market and higher prices that added $1 billion to pretax operating earnings. Excluding some gains and costs, earnings were 46 cents a share, topping the 31-cent average of 12 estimates compiled by Bloomberg.

Market share

A 37 percent surge in U.S. sales in the first quarter more than doubled the industrywide increase, helping Ford add domestic market share at the fastest pace in 33 years after becoming the only major U.S. automaker to avoid bankruptcy in 2009.

Profit was buoyed by Ford Credit's $828 million of pretax operating income, after a $36 million year-earlier loss. Ford Credit, which lends to dealers and buyers, will earn about $2 billion on an operating basis in 2010, Ford said. The unit will pay Ford a dividend of $2 billion this year, up from a previous forecast of $1.5 billion, Booth said.

Himanshu Patel, a JPMorgan Chase & Co. analyst in New York, said in a note that the unit's first-quarter gains were driven by rising resale prices and are “unsustainable.” He advises holding Ford shares.

Ford shares slid 6.3 percent, to $13.55, at 4:02 p.m. in New York Stock Exchange composite trading. The stock tumbled as much as 9.1 percent earlier in the day, the most since May 12, after almost tripling in the 12 months through yesterday.

Regional results

In North America, Ford had a pretax operating profit of $1.2 billion, following a $665 million loss in the first three months of 2009. Revenue climbed 41 percent to $14.1 billion.

Ford also posted better results in all regions outside North America.

• Ford South America reported operating profit of $203 million versus $63 million a year ago. Higher costs prevented even higher profits, the company said. First quarter revenue was $2 billion, up from $1.4 billion.

• Ford Europe posted a profit versus a loss last year. The unit enjoyed higher sales, lower costs and higher parts profit. First-quarter operating profits were $107 million, compared with a loss of $585 million a year ago. Revenue jumped to $7.7 billion versus $5.8 billion.

• Ford Asia Pacific Africa also erased a loss last year. The region posted operating profit of $23 million, compared with a loss of $97 million a year ago. Higher sales in China boosted results.

Factory conversions

Some factories will close temporarily in the second half while being converted to build a new version of the Focus compact car, Booth said. Ford's price gains will “deteriorate” with the debut of the Focus and the Fiesta small cars this year because those models are less expensive, he said.

The Fusion sedan, F-150 pickup and Fusion drove first-quarter U.S. sales increases, Booth said.

“The most important thing Ford has done is invest heavily in new product during this down cycle,” said Erich Merkle, president of consultant Autoconomy LLC in Grand Rapids, Mich. “As we're coming out, they've got all this new product coming out in just about every category.”

First-quarter revenue rose 15 percent to $28.1 billion. That compared with the $28 billion average estimate among seven analysts. Net income was 50 cents a share, exceeding the average estimate of 29 cents from two analysts, and compared with a net loss of $1.43 billion, or 60 cents, a year earlier.

2010 outlook

Revising Mulally's previous forecast of being “solidly profitable” in 2011, Ford said today it “now expects to deliver solid profits this year, with positive automotive operating-related cash flow.” Booth said 2010 earnings will exceed the first-quarter total, without giving a figure.

“Given where we were even three or four months ago, this says to you that we're really encouraged by the start we had” to the year, Booth told analysts.

Ford reported $25.3 billion in automotive cash on March 31, up from $24.9 billion at the end of 2009, which the automaker restated from $25.5 billion because of an accounting change.

Cash consumption was $100 million during 2010's first three months, after the company used $3.7 billion a year earlier. Booth said Ford will have positive cash flow for all of 2010.

Borrowing $23 billion in late 2006 gave Ford a cash cushion to withstand losses and develop new models such as the Fiesta. The trade-off was a debt load that Mulally has said puts Ford at a competitive disadvantage with General Motors Co. and Chrysler Group LLC, which had their obligations cut in bankruptcy.

Automotive debt was $34.3 billion, up from $33.6 billion at the end of 2009, which was adjusted from $34.3 billion due to an accounting change, Ford said. That doesn't include a $3 billion payment Ford made on its revolving line of credit on April 6.

Redesigned models such as the Taurus sedan helped boost U.S. market share through March to 17.4 percent from 14.7 percent a year earlier, the biggest jump since 1977, Ford has said. Ford has said it is attracting buyers from Toyota Motor Corp. after global recalls of more than 8 million vehicles.

Mulally, 64, also completed his push to unload Ford's European luxury brands by reaching an agreement in March to sell Volvo to China's Zhejiang Geely Holding Co. That transaction should close in the third quarter, Ford said today.

Can you tow using the bumper hitch ?

Question:

Can you tow with a 1995 Ford Explorer V6 engine using the bumper hitch, I might buy one but I want to make sure I can tow with it ?

Answer:

Yes, you can tow with a ford explorer. In fact some of them came with a factory bumper hitch. As long as you do not exceed the towing capacity of the bumper hitch which is commonly 2000 lbs. If you want to tow more than that, I would recommend a Reese style hitch(one that bolts directly to the frame.

Used Car Review - Suzuki APV (2005-Current)

Need something practical for less cash? Myk Belmonte gives you a suggestion.

2005-Current Suzuki APV

History
Indonesians love multi-purpose vehicles since the birth of the Toyota Kijang in that place. In fact the Toyota Avanza (and its Daihatsu Xenia twin) are the common vehicles roaming the streets of the island nation. Talk about small size and little maintenance costs, it inspired competitors to develop this type of vehicle for the market.

Designed in Japan and produced by Suzuki's Indonesian subsidiary, the APV was first launched in 2004 together with the Mitsubishi Maven (basically the same model with a different design and Mitsubishi's 4G15 engine but discontinued after 2009). It was made available first in a MPV body with pick-up versions followed suit.

After fielding Carry in the passenger van market back then, the APV was made available to the Philippine consumer back in 2005 with ads that feature Doraemon. This vehicle provided an alternative to the common Adventure and Crosswind duo and the new kid on the block Innova until the Avanza came along a year later. Updates were done in May 2008 and November 2011 which included some revisions in the trim line. Variants include the base GA (added in 2006), GL, GLX, and SGX (made available in the 2008 revision).

Value and Costs
Do not worry if you have limited funds to purchase a brand new unit, especially a second hand APV costs between P200,000 for older models to P500,000 for later ones. Go with a July 2011 and later model to take advantage of the warranty.

Engine components are shared with the Vitara, which means maintenance costs are on the low side. Do take note that the engine is situated under the front passenger seats which makes access a little bit difficult.

Exterior and Interior
Unlike other contemporaries, the APV possesses a tall height which translates to a good headroom inside while retaining its compact size. It has some resemblance to a loaf of bread due to its lines and size. Let us not deal with this aspect too much.

Jumping to the driver's seat requires you some adjustments if you had graduated from a sedan, since the steering wheel is positioned akin to a bus, a high seating position, and oddly placed pedals. Good thing the second and third row benches are equally placed which can give you capacity for six people at the back. SGX models gain a second row captain's chair which can be adjusted forward and reclined if desired. Thank goodness that the radio and air-con controls are within the driver's reach. Before anything else, the GA does not have any power amenities except steering.

Engine
No diesel engine under the hood, but instead we find a G16A 1,590cc gasoline having 91hp at 5,750rpm and 127Nm at 4,500rpm. Having a weight worth 1,300kg, the 1.6 engine might have trouble in motivating the APV no thanks to a double digit horsepower rating. If its full, you have to mash every revs to extract power that is available.

Driving Impressions
For those who want something that will inspire their driving, go elsewhere. Handling isn't exciting and steering feedback is on the bad side, no thanks to a steering wheel that is small. But then, you'll be treated to an expanse outside visibility which is a good thing.

Verdict
If you want something cheap to purchase that can carry seven to eight people in a pinch, the APV is the answer. However, in the price range, we would be picking something that is more superior in every aspect especially that the devil of depreciation hit them.

The Good:
  • Headroom
  • Small size means easy city driving
  • High height
The Bad:
  • Crude suspension layout
  • Engine is overtaxed
  • Somewhat limited space
The Pick: 1.6 GLX

Hyundai elantra 1.8L 5 speed just suddenly started running very poorly and now will not start

1996 Hyundai elantra 1.8L 5 speed just suddenly started running very poorly and now will not start. The power dropped off to almost nothing. It tries to start but just pops a little like it’s trying. I changed the fuel filter and it gets fuel while cranking. I checked each plug wire and they all have spark. The plugs are almost new. I also checked the timing marks and everything looks right. I have a cheap code reader and get the following codes; 136, 300, 301, 302, 304, and 441. Any ideas what’s causing the misfire and O2 codes?
Answer:
When was the last time the engine was tuned up? No, not just plugs, but a full tune up! The whole nine yards! READ Entire Article

slack on supercharger belt

Question:

I have a 1997 Pontiac GTP has slack on supercharger belt and the tensioner is clicking back and forth. Belt is the right size. Already tried changing the belt with a smaller belt.

Answer:

It sounds like the tensioner needs to be replaced as the internal spring is to weak. The only thing would be to make sure none of the pulleys the belt rides on are sticking/hanging up. Spin them with the belt off to check them. There is no adjustment for the tensioner and they commonly need to be replaced. They probably have one in stock at your local auto parts store.

Left rear brake Sticking

Question:
I have a 1988 Ford Mustang w/ rear discs and no apparent ABS. Replaced calipers and pads. Left rear brake fails to release after using E-brake. Replaced caliper again. Same deal.

Answer:
Sounds like the problem is in your Park brake cable. Disconnect them. pull the lever and measure. Release the lever and measure to make sure they are releasing. If not, replace the cables and make sure they are routed correctly.
If it fails to release without using the park brake, then you need to replace the caliper hose.(most common)

Blown Head Gasket

How do I Replace a Head Gasket on My '94 Ford Ranger 2.3L ?
You will want to disconect the battery, drain all the coolant and remove the oil pan drain plug. Removing the drain plug is to allow any coolant that gets into the engine to drain out quickly and keeps from causing any damage to the engine. Follow the steps listed below. I suggest using a paint marker to mark all wires and hoses. When done top off all fluids and double check all bolts and fittings. Reconnect the battery and start the engine. Re-check coolant level after engine has had a chance to warm. Full Step by Step Procedure

Emission Controls

The goal of the emission control system is simple, minimize pollution.

PVC Valve
The first emission control device was the positive crankcase ventilation valve, also known as the PCV valve.  It was federally mandated in 1963.  During the compression stroke a small percentage of the raw air/fuel mixture squeezes between the pitons and the cylinder walls and goes into the crankcase.  This raw mixture of air and fuel is very polluting.  Before 1963 these gasses were vented into the atmosphere.  With a PCV valve, these raw gases are put back into the engine where they are burned.  This reduces pollution while marginally increasing gas mileage.

EGR Valve
In 1972 the government mandated “Exhaust Gas Recirculation” valves, also know as EGR valves.  This valve opens when the engine is warmed-up and turning faster than the idle speed.  It allows a predetermined amount of burnt gases to be recycled back into the intake.  Over 98% of the exhaust gases are inert since they were ‘burnt’ in a previous combustion event.  Nitrous oxide is the main component of “Smog” and is caused by high combustion temperatures.  Mixing raw air/fuel with inert gas from the EGR valve decreases the combustion temperatures, preventing (limiting) the production of nitrous oxides.

Catalytic Converter
In 1975 catalytic converters were introduced.  Catalytic converters are very effective means to reduce air pollution.  When you burn gas, you produce H20 (water), carbon dioxide (C02) and Carbon Monoxide (C0) and some gasoline remains unburnt (HC).  H20 and CO2 are desirable results of combustion, but HC and C0 are very polluting and therefore undesirable. The catalytic converter converts CO into CO2 and converts HC into H2O and C02.  Catalytic converters can be destroyed instantly with leaded gas.  When they were introduced, the gasoline manufacturers also introduced lead free gas.

Oxygen Sensor
Oxygen sensors are used to fine tune the air fuel mixture.  The ideal mixture is 14.7 parts of air to one part of gasoline.  This ratio is called stochiometric.  A rich running car means there is too much fuel for the amount of air, and a lean running condition means there is too much air for the amount of gasoline.  A very rich or very lean running engine will ruin a catalytic converter.  To keep the engine close to stochiometric, manufacturers added sensors to measure the amount of air going into the engine.  Knowing how much air is going into the engine, the computer can add the proper amount of gasoline.  The Oxygen sensor is a feedback device which tells the computer if the mixture is too lean or too rich.  Since the oxygen sensor helps the computer maintain stochiometric mixture it reduces pollution and increases gas mileage.

EVAP System
The EVAP system was introduced around 1996.  This system is designed to prevent gas vapors from escaping into the atmosphere.  Gasoline in your gas tank naturally vaporizes.  In older cars this vapor was vented into the atmosphere.  Since 1996 these vapors are collected in a canister filer.  When you are moving above a predetermined speed, two valves open up allowing the vapors in the canister filter to vent into the engine where they are burnt.  This devise increases gas mileage and decreases pollution.

error code of P1824

Question:
I took my 2002 Ford Explorer to the repair facility with an error code of P1824. After extensive research on their part, or so they say, they stated that the electronic shift control module needed replacing so the 4x4 high light would stop blinking on the console. We have replaced this part and the light is still flashing, after unplugging battery for five minutes to reset the computer. They cannot figure out what is wrong. Any suggestions???

Answer:
Replacement of the 4WD control module does not require programming using the Ford scan tool on this vehicle. Vehicles built after 03/04/2002 with the 11th digit of the VIN being (U) or vehicles built after 03/11/2002 with the 11th digit of the VIN being (Z) require a different module than those built before these dates. The modules are not interchangeable though the harness connectors will plug into either of the modules. The modules have different internal designs. The 4WD shift module is located forward of the glove box, under the passenger side of the dash.

1. Check the resistance of the magnetic clutch coil at the transfer case measuring between terminal 16 and terminal 11 of the shift motor connection. Terminal 16 connects to a Brown (BN) wire on the harness and terminal 11 connects to a Brown/Yellow (BN/YE) wire on the harness. Resistance should indicate a reading of 2.5-3.0 ohms.

2. Use a scanner to try and command the 4WD clutch on. If this is possible, monitor the voltage on the BN wire while increasing the command on the clutch. If there is low or no voltage to the clutch no matter what the command, check the powers and grounds to the module.

3. The Four Wheel Drive (4WD) module is located behind the glove box area.

A. C281a pin 1 Black/White (BK/WH) and pin 2 White (WH) should be battery voltage at all times.
B. Pin 9 Violet/Orange (VT/OG) should be battery voltage with the key on.

C. Pin 10 Orange (OG) should be battery voltage with the key in the crank position only.

D. C281b pin 16 Grey/Yellow (GY/YE) should be battery voltage with the key in the run position.

3. The grounds are C281a pin 7 Black (BK) and C281b pin 2 Black/Light Blue (BK/LB).

4. If the powers and grounds are OK, replace the 4WD module. Be sure to get the correct module, the early and late build modules will plug in but are not interchangeable.

Chrysler and U.S. market to play key role in Alfa relaunch

Chrysler Group will play a key role in plans to revive Fiat S.p.A.'s ailing Alfa brand. The U.S. automaker will build two new Alfa crossover models for sale in North America and Europe.

Fiat S.p.A. CEO Sergio Marchionne made a strong commitment to the money-losing sporty brand, which will be 100 years old in June, during a presentation of Fiat's five-year strategy Wednesday.

Marchionne announced the launch of seven new Alfa models between 2010 and 2014 and said Fiat is determined to transform the brand into a "full-line premium carmaker."

Marchionne also said North America will account for 85,000 unit sales in 2014 out of 500,000 that Alfa aims to sell in that year.

The Chrysler-built vehicles for Alfa will be:

• A compact SUV based on the Compact architecture that underpins the Giulietta hatchback in Europe. Production will begin in 2012

• A large SUV, similar in size to the next Jeep Liberty, which is sold as the Cherokee in Europe. Production will start in 2014.

The crossover models will be built in two of the three U.S. plants that Chrysler Group plans to retool for new Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep models based on Fiat-Chrysler's Compact Wide architecture.

Alfa will also sell a mid-sized sedan and station wagon when in the U.S. starting in late 2012. These two vehicles will have the name Giulia and in Europe will replace the 159 range. They will be built in Italy.

Alfa will also sell in the U.S. a five-door version of its MiTo minicar, which is currently sold in Europe as a three-door. The five-door MiTo will be sold in Europe and North America starting in 2013.

Alfa will launch the Giulietta in North America after the car gets a face-lift in 2014. The Giulietta launches in May in Europe.

Alfa will continue to build the Mito and Giulietta in Italy.

Chrysler to build Alfa spider

Marchionne also said Chrysler will provide the platform for a new Alfa spider model, planned for 2013, but said the production location has not been decided.

Fiat's plan for Alfa to sell 500,000 cars in 2014 is five times more than Alfa sold last year.

Starved of fresh product as Fiat delayed key new models, Alfa sales have declined steeply as its lineup became older. This year's volume expected to be 120,000 units, compared with a peak of 207,000 in 2001. Alfa has lost between 200 million and 400 million euros ($288 million to $566 million) a year in the past 10 years, according to company sources.

Alfa quit the North American market in 1995 after the quality of the brand's cars was condemned in studies and its sales plummeted.

Where can I find a list of Trouble Codes ?

Question:
Where can I find a complete list of all the diagnostic trouble codes. Is there one place that has them all ?

Answer:
You can find a complete list that includes OBD I, OBD II, and CAN. There are even instructions on how to extract the OBD I codes without a scan tool. All of the codes are followed by a description of what each code means. Instead of looking around in different site for each list you can find them all here.

Chrysler's all new Peapod - neighborhood electric vehicle, or NEV

Chrysler Peapod

The car is built on a 102 inch wheelbase with an overall length of 143.6 inches. It is 56.5 inches wide and 70.5 inches tall. For contrast, that's just two inches shorter in overall length than a MINI Cooper with a longer wheelbase. Its turning circle is 32 feet curb-to-curb. Base vehicle weight is estimated to be 1,290 pounds, and with a rated payload capacity of 910 pounds the maximum gross vehicle weight is 2,200 pounds. The Peapod is built on an aluminum spaceframe that's supported by dual A-arm front suspension with coil-over shocks and rack-and-pinion steering.
Buyers will have a choice of either six flooded electrolyte 12-volt lead acid batteries or optional maintenance-free batteries. The Peapod's 72-volt electrical system will have an onboard charger that will top off the batteries in six to eight hours from a standard 110-volt outlet. No details have been released on the electric motor, but the platform will be front-wheel-drive and feature regenerative braking. A full charge will yield approximately 30 miles of range, depending on terrain.

I have a street rod and now it won't idle

Question:
I have a street rod with a General Motors 350 engine, just replaced the (Accel) coil, coil cap, mag pick-up and control module. I have reset the air spacing. and now it won't idle. I think I should now recheck the timing but don't no what that would be. The engine is stock except for the cam and i have no idea what the duration etc. would be. where do I start.

Answer:
Start at 4 degrees BTDC. this is stock, then add 2 degrees(advanced) and test drive, keep adding 2 degrees until you hear it ping and back it off 2 degrees. this is the optimal timing for performance. back it off 4 to 6 degrees from engine ping for more drivable/easy to start conditions. If you have Nitrous Oxide, then remove 2 degrees for every 50 hp of Nitrous.

Raser debuted a plug-in hybrid version Hummer H3 that gets 100+ mpg

Utah's Raser Technologies debuted a plug-in hybrid version Hummer H3 that gets 100+ mpg, nearly doubling the 51 mpg of the Toyota Prius in the city. And it goes from 0 to 60 in 8.5 seconds — faster than the smaller Hummer H2 with a V-8 gasoline engine and within the under-10-seconds goal of the next-gen Prius.
As Raser calls it, this "Chevy Volt on steroids" comes with a 260-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder EcoTech engine that drives a powerful 100-kilowatt generator that recharges its 600 pounds of lithium-ion battery packs. Those batteries are the bugbear of hybrids because they're bulky and heavy. But when you've got a Hummer H3, you've got the room.
With a range of 400 miles, this green Hummer will go 40 miles on electricity only, well within the typical seven-mile drive of most Americans.

Where are the dash lights in my 1992 GMC truck

Question:
Where are the dash lights in my 1992 GMC 1500 Sierra 350 so i can fix them they went out ?

Answer:
Make sure your gauges fuse is good.(fuse # 4, 10 amp). The bulbs are located behind/inside the dash cluster and require removal to replace them. I have added the procedure below for reference.

1992-94 C/K Models
Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Remove the instrument panel cluster bezel.
Unplug the electrical connections for the headlamp switch and the dimmer control.
Remove the radio control head.
Remove the heater control panel. On air conditioned vehicles, disengage the A/C harness.
Remove the cluster retaining screws.
Disconnect the gear shift indicator cable from the steering column shift bowl.
Carefully pull the cluster towards you until you can reach the electrical connector. Unplug the connector. Avoid touching the connector pins.
If replacing the bulbs, turn the bulb assembly 1⁄2 turn to the left to remove.
To install:

Install the bulb assembly. Carefully position the cluster until you can reach the electrical connector. Plug in the connector. Avoid touching the connector pins.
Install the cluster retaining screws.
Connect the gear shift indicator cable.
Install the heater control panel and A/C harness (if removed).
Install the radio control head and any attach any electrical connections that were removed.
Install the bezel.
Connect the negative battery cable.

Used Car Review - Porsche Boxster (2005-2012)

It's time for fun under the sun courtesy of Myk Belmonte's suggestion.

2005-2012 Porsche Boxster

History
We all know that the 911 is the star of a Porsche dealership anywhere in the world. However, not everyone can afford and not a fit to everyone's tastes and personality. This is where the Boxster fits in, the one car that saved Porsche from being purchased back then. The rest, as they say, is history.

The second generation Boxster (under the codename 987) was first seen in the 2004 Paris Motor Show and put to sale the following year. While the shape is similar to the previous generation model, there are minor differences to begin with while the interior gets circular motifs in it. The 981 was introduced in March 2012, effectively discontinuing this series.

PGA Cars launched the 987 Boxster in 2005, alongside the Carrera and 997. Variants include the 2.7 (upgraded to 2.9 in 2009), 3.2 (became the 3.4) and the indent basis Spyder.

Value and Costs
If you want one, then prices for a 987 Boxster fall between P2,000,000-P4,000,000. Our very number one rule when it comes to buying premium branded vehicles: go for the pre-owned route.

Maintenance costs are definitely on the upper side of the scale, especially when compared to its German compatriots. As with top down cars, check if the canvas works properly and free of water leaks.

Exterior and Interior
While the car bears resemblance to the 986, there are some distinctions done to the vehicle which includes Carrera GT-like headlamps, intake valves which are horizontally slated and done in silver color, and larger wheel arches to accommodate wheels up to 19 inch in diameter. Add to this (which is subjective and my opinion) is a timeless design.

Mickey Mouse would feel at home when driving the Boxster, especially that circles are present in the air-con vents and instrument cluster. The audio controls are wanting, since they are small and tiny. Good thing is that seats are comfortable and baggage's are welcome in the front portion and a little at the back.

Engine
Two engine options sold in a regular basis and one that can be had through an indent basis are available throughout selling life, with all of them being flat six engines. The base one is a 2.7 (upgraded to a 2.9 in February 2009) that has power good for 240hp at 6,400rpm and torque pegged at 270Nm at 4,700-6,000rpm (255hp at the same rpm range for the 2.9 and 290Nm but the initial range is lowered to 4,400rpm). Next in line which powers the S model is a 3.2 (later updates bumped the displacement to a 3.4) having 280hp at 6,200rpm and 320Nm at 4,700-6,000rpm (the 3.4 models get 310hp at 6,400rpm and 360Nm at 4,400-5,500rpm). A 3.4 engine available in the Spyder having 320hp at 7,200rpm and 370Nm at 4,750rpm. So when it comes to performance, we can sum up to this: the 2.7 being mild, the 3.2 the moderate, and the Spyder a wild one in terms of power. Do take note that units until the first month of 2009 made do with a 5-speed 'matic, with an option between a 7-speed dual clutch (or PDK) and a manual transmission for the units sold after that date.

Driving Impressions
Have the vehicle driven anywhere, flats or curves, and it will stay planted on the ground while remaining its fun to drive demeanor. You'll never run out of excuses to have fun with this convertible, especially that it invites you to drive one for yourself.

Verdict
Going pre-owned gives you the possibilities of driving home something that you can't afford before. Although you can't have that sweet new car smell, the function and performance matters. The 987 Boxster, despite nearly 10 years old when it was first launched, is a fine piece of automotive. You'll love it, I say it to you.

The Good:
  • Fun to toss around
  • Numerous engine options
  • Stirling appearance
The Bad:
  • Expensive maintenance costs
  • Busy audio control layout
  • Not for all tastes
The Pick: Boxster S

GM agrees deal with unions to close Opel plant in Belgium

Compensation package removes key hurdle in Opel/Vauxhall revamp

General Motors Co.'s Opel/Vauxhall unit has agreed a deal with unions to close a plant in Antwerp, Belgium.

GM had announced in January that it would close the 120,000-unit capacity plant as part of a restructuring to reduce European capacity by a fifth to help return Opel to profitability within two years.

Opel unions, which had opposed the closure, on Sunday agreed a compensation package for the 2,560 Antwerp workers, a plant spokeswoman told the German press agency, Deutsche Presse-Agentur.

Workers will vote on Tuesday whether to accept the deal, which offers workers up to 144,000 euros ($193,000) in compensation for losing their jobs.

GM will still look for an outside investor to take over the plant and continue building the Astra three-door hatchback and Astra convertible. If no investor is found by September 30, the factory will close by the end of the year.

Klaus, Franz, Opel's top union leader, told the press agency that an important roadblock hindering labor's acceptance of GM's European restructuring will be removed if Antwerp workers vote to accept the deal.

GM plans to cut 8,300 of Opel/Vauxhall's 48,000 workforce and is seeking up to 2 billion in loan guarantees from five European governments toward its turnaround plan for Opel and its UK sister brand Vauxhall.

The British government has already pledged 300 million. Germany, where Opel and most of its workers are based, is being asked for the largest amount at 1.3 billion euros and has still to make a decision on whether to lend aid.

1997 Dode Caravan - popping noise from engine on acceleration

I have a 1997 Dodge Grand Caravan and I took it to a mechanic and he said that there was low compression in the first cylinder what would cause this and how do i fix it there also appears to be no apparent leak as I have no loss of fluid? I have just recently picked up some K&W Permanent Metallic Block Seal Head Gasket Repair is this something that I should try ? Please help I am desperate as this is my only vehicle and I have four children. Sorry I feel like the biggest idiot i just talked with the mechanic about my car and i was not given all the info as my mother in law was the one that grabbed it for us and relayed the info he said that it was due to a bad valve and that i needed a valve job done on it which is expensive so because when the problem first presented it was making a popping noise so what he did was take off the plug to the first cylinder so it doesn't make the popping noise.

Answer:

The Block seal will not help the issue you have. A valve job or replacement of a valve in the #1 cylinder is eminent. Removing the plug wire from that cylinder will keep the engine from popping but it is important to make sure the Fuel Injector was also unplugged so it doesn't continue to inject fuel into that cylinder and cause the rings to wash out.

the brake pedal goes to the floor

Question:

We have a 1995 Ford Mustang, the brake pedal goes to the floor with no braking power and no system leaks. What could be the problem?

Answer:

This is a classic indication of a failed master cylinder. This is from the internal seals of the master cylinder allowing fluid to pass internally.

Be Paid $538 per month or $6256 to Keep Your Car In

Sounds too good to be true, but it is…. Let me explain.
A few months ago my niece sent me an article which stated the average car on the road is about 11 years old.  This is a record.  The article hinted that this was due to the recession.  It is NOT because of the recession!
Let’s get started…. Growing up in the 70’s my parents, who were middle class, bought a new car when their existing car had about 60,000 miles.  This wasn’t because they wanted the new features, or they liked car payments, or they just wanted a new car. They bought a new car because they had to.  The existing car was falling apart. Inside and outside everything was breaking.
Since then the quality of cars as skyrocketed.  What I call revolutionary, not evolutionary quality improvement.  I opened my business in 1986 and I saw first hand the quality improvements.
My 1993 Oldsmobile, with over 230,000 miles, ran like new – until an Audi rear ended my car – it was parked.  My 1996 Oldsmobile similarly runs like new and all I ever do is maintenance.
Cars made after 1995 were designed to run like new, with just regular maintenance, for over 200,000 miles.  This isn’t pie-in-the-sky praying, this is for real.  I see it every day.  Cars with over 100,000 miles are the new normal, not unusual.  I believe in a few years, cars with over 200,000 miles will be the new normal as well.
So how do you get paid $538 per month or $6256 per year NOT to buy a car?
Insurance on a new car is at least $600 more than insurance on a 6 year old car.  Cars over 6 years old, on average, cost $500 per year to keep in like-new condition.  Since you save $600 on insurance, it is like the insurance company is paying you $100.00 per year NOT to buy a new car.
Also, the average car payment is $438 per month.  Keeping your car is like the auto companies paying you $438 per month, or $5256 per year to keep your car.  These are real savings, but you must maintain your car.

Car Features - We Rate the Vehicle Introductions During Joseph Estrada's Term

Joseph Estrada experienced falling car sales during his period as the President of the Philippines since he inherited the effects of the financial crisis. Nearly thirteen years he was impeached and became the Mayor of Manila, he saw the economy progressed which caused heavy traffic to his city. Today, he will celebrate his 77th year of existence.

Despite the financial crisis and sagging vehicle sales, there are some vehicle launches which we will revisit and rate them for their significance.

We would rate the vehicle launches between June 30, 1998 to January 20, 2001 by their success and significance in their market. Some vehicles paved way to future trends in the market while some were regarded as future classics and collectibles.

Shown below are the vehicles, date of introduction (those after January 20, 2001 are excluded), short introduction, and significance rating (out of five) with some commentary.

Vehicle: Audi TT
Introduction date: 1999
One of the great wonders to be released, the TT gives you unadulterated driving experience even though it has a "conservative" engine. And the dashing looks comes standard, which will be a future classic than the VW New Beetle.
Significance rating (out of five): 4/5. Future classic for the future generation.

Vehicle: BMW 3 Series E46
Introduction date: Late 1998 for sedan. 2001 for coupe, convertible, and wagon.
One of the favorite of the upper class and upper income folks. This sold well despite the economic meltdown and spawned the 3 Series line-up by including a coupe, convertible, and wagon versions. It retained its driving prowess which the vehicle is known for.
Significance rating: 5/5. Nobody beats the 3 Series, nobody.

Vehicle: Chevrolet Cassia
Introduction date: September 2000
The American invasion had trickled to the lowest portion of the automotive chain: the compact sedan. If the Ford Lynx was successful, the Cassia struggled to find any buyers perhaps to those who are fans of Chevrolets. Other than a complete vehicle amenities, there is no other advantage. The Optra that succeed at least made a dent.
Significance rating: 1/5. It tried but definitely failed.

Vehicle: Chevrolet Silverado
Introduction date: 2000
If the F150 succeeded, the Silverado was the opposite. It may have a potent V8 engine but it miserably failed on dealer support since only a handful of dealers are there to assist you.
Significance rating: 1/5. Chevrolets weren't successful during its first years.

Vehicle: Chevrolet Zafira
Introduction date: September 2000
A space master which can fit 7 people in a tiny shell. Made from Europe with a European price tag, at P1.3M during that time. Dropped from the line-up in 2002 and returned a year later with a lower price tag thanks to a revision on vehicle taxes.
Significance rating: 2/5. Too small a vehicle for the price.

Vehicle: Chrysler Voyager
Introduction date: 2000
Supplementing the overpriced and unloved Dodge Caravan is the smaller Voyager. There is not much to say especially it didn't sell well.
Significance rating: 1/5. No one bothered.

Vehicle: Daewoo Matiz
Introduction date: 2000
Only made available to the Visayas (most especially Cebu, Iloilo, and Bacolod) and Mindanao markets, the Daewoo Matiz was the last "Daewoo badged" vehicle until the Aveo and Optra were blessed as Chevrolets. This tiny hatch competed with the aging Kia Pride and oddball Hyundai Atoz but with a limited market, the limited is very very small.
Significance rating: 1/5. The people's car which never took off.

Vehicle: Dodge Durango
Introduction date: 2000
Transfarm released this Daimler Chrysler SUV alongside the Jeep Grand Cherokee. Unlike the releases of Ford, the Durango could never be called a success especially that price killed it before anything else. CATS Motors released the second generation model five years later with proper aftersales support.
Significance rating: 1/5. Toppling Ford was very hard for Transfarm.

Vehicles: Ford E150, Expedition, and F150
Introduction date: August 1998
After their pull out in the mid 80s, Ford Group Philippines' return was abuzz when Fidel Ramos gave them tons of incentives to mull their manufacturing plant in Santa Rosa, Laguna. To cement their presence, they sold first luxury vehicles such as the F150, Expedition, and E150 which sold well to the upper class market but gave Ford their gas guzzling image which resulted to low residuals.
Significance rating: 4/5. They returned with much fan fare at the expense of their image.

Vehicle: Ford Explorer Sport Trac
Introduction date: November 2000
Launched a year after the Ranger, the Sport Trac was promoted for active lifestyles than off-roading, which the Ranger was known for. While it managed to stay for four years, the gasoline engine limited its appeal especially this is sold in the US.
Significance rating: 3/5. Time had passed for this pick-up truck.

Vehicle: Ford Lynx
Introduction date: September 1999
Ford made hay with the Laser in the 80s. But with most units accumulating rust, Ford Group Philippines wanted to purge this memory off with the Lynx. Aimed at industry mainstays Corolla, Civic, and Sentra, it found buyers but failed to topple the leaders. It may offer a sunroof, leather seats, and an RS version throughout selling life but it bowed out in 2005 for the European based Focus.
Significance rating: 3/5. Its efforts wasn't enough.

Vehicle: Ford Ranger
Introduction date: September 1999
The success of the L200 and Frontier was the envy of Ford Philippines which prompted to introduce the Ranger. Unlike the hulking F150, you can live with its size and fuel consumption. This truck was the first American vehicle to be available with a diesel engine, which was a requirement in a diesel loving nation.
Significance rating: 3/5. American and diesels can work in harmony.

Vehicle: Honda HR-V
Introduction date: March 2000
Unlike the CR-V, the HR-V is a novelty vehicle especially it has a higher price and smaller dimensions inside and out. Nobody bothered with this vehicle unless one is a diehard Honda fan especially it was offered in an irregular basis.
Significance rating: 2/5. Why bother with this SUV anyway?

Vehicle: Jeep Grand Cherokee
Introduction date: 2000
Before Erap was removed in position, Transfarm introduced the second generation Grand Cherokee to compete with the successful Expedition. There's a V8 engine but it is not enough to topple the favorite of the papas of the Sexbomb Dancers.
Significance rating: 1/5. A packaged product marred with a stratospheric price and limited dealer support.

Vehicle: Kia Carnival
Introduction date: June 2000
Just like the Starex, the Carnival started out as a grey importer darling. With Columbian Autocar Corporation facing falling sales no thanks to some internal issues within the company, this minivan was brought in to re-brand the Kia nameplate. Somehow, it became a market success but with the arrival of modern competitors it fell behind.
Significance rating: 4/5. Koreans (and the Nippon) are the masters of space.

Vehicle: Kia Rio
Introduction date: Late 2000
Kia called this vehicle as an usher to its "New Millennium" technology. However, it was still remembered of its forefathers quality issues. While it first arrived, better competitors in the names of City and Vios came to the scene with better specification sheet. Other than a hatchback body, there is no other reason to buy this one.
Significance rating: 2/5. First does not mean a blockbuster.

Vehicle: Kia Sephia
Introduction date: June 2000
An addition to the Kia line-up, the Sephia could be called as a liftback similar to what the Mazda Astina and Proton Wira had done back then. While the market couldn't remove their Kia memories with the Pride, the Sephia is no market success.
Significance rating: 1/5. Wrong timing for such ambitious product.

Vehicle: Lincoln Town Car
Introduction date: 1999
FGP's first passenger car offering was this expensive Lincoln. A popular choice among bridal car operators and American diplomats, this can be purchased at a staggering P2.6M which does not include the fuel bills for the truck based V8 engine. Novelty got worn off for this vehicle.
Significance rating: 2/5. The select few got hands.

Vehicle: Mercedes Benz A Class
Introduction date: 2000
The smallest Benz that one can buy back then, and the cheapest too. The bad news is it flopped especially nobody bothered with a Benz without a trunk plus its failure in the moose test didn't do things either. The A Class badge resurfaced thirteen years later in a mature market.
Significance rating: 1/5. Wrong timing for such a classy but practical car.

Vehicle: Mercedes Benz C Class
Introduction date: June 2000
Although available through indent order (still), this generation paved way to various engine options including a turbocharged one. It had curves than the previous model plus it was more noticeable than before. Good job, finally.
Significance rating: 3/5. It is still a class of its own.

Vehicle: Mercedes Benz M Class
Introduction date: 2000
A "true" Benz SUV (the Musso was basically a rebadged Ssangyong) that was first in the luxury SUV race to compete with the Land Rovers. This one, while it looked great, had a share of reliability problems that is something not to be proud of. The BMW X5, launched during Erap's predecessor, was a much better product.
Significance rating: 1/5. The M meant misstep in the model.

Vehicle: Mitsubishi L200
Introduction date: 1999
From boxy lines, the L200 gained some curves without giving up its muscular image and payload capacity. It also gained more standard amenities but with the vehicle introduced during Estrada's term, some people call it the "Estrada" since the Strada nameplate has some resemblance to the then leader.
Significance rating: 5/5. Mitsubishi introduced the vehicle at the right time.

Vehicle: Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution V

Significance rating: 3/5. The enthusiast crowd cried when this one got the axe.

Vehicle: Mitsubishi Pajero
Introduction date: 1999
The Field Master nameplate brought a host of improvements including a new engine. While it became popular to the general public, it got dragged to controversy such as the infamous "Pajero Lady" and former DECS and La Salle Brother Andrew Gonzalez's purchase of expensive vehicles (which includes this one). Its a cliche, that you would be noticed with a Pajero.
Significance rating: 5/5. A revision attracted both the good and bad luck.

Vehicle: Nissan AD Max
Introduction date: June 1999
With the AD Resort going to car heaven, the AD Max shouldered on the duties it left behind. Businesses that do not need the bulk and danger of the L300 purchased this one in droves. After this, no manufacturer introduced a vehicle of the same concept.
Significance rating: 2/5. Fleets took a liking on this one.

Vehicle: Nissan Cefiro
Introduction date: May 2000
This generation of Cefiro retained the qualities of the previous model while adding new features such as a sunroof, Brougham model, and a 3.0 V6. While it was good, superior and modern competitors clawed its market share to zero and increasing its dependence to rent-a-car companies. The Teana, its successor, was a poor market performer.
Significance rating: 4/5. It was good until it got old.

Vehicle: Nissan Frontier
Introduction date: Late 1998
Replacing the aging Eagle/Pathfinder series, the Frontier offered numerous firsts in its category such as an automatic transmission and airbags. Significance rating: 5/5. The top head of the country uses this one.

Vehicle: Nissan Sentra Exalta
Introduction date: March 2000

Sure, it may have a tacky interior and it carries a floaty ride but hey, you get these items in a stock car for less.
Significance rating: 5/5. Placing items reserved for the top to their lower brethren is a success.

Vehicle: Nissan Verita
Introduction date: July 2000
Coinciding with the Toyota Echo, the Verita seemed to follow the theme set by the Exalta and Cefiro which were released months ahead. Placing tons of wood to a vehicle that is intended towards the younger crowd isn't well received. Added to the fact hatches aren't the norm during the time.
Significance rating: 3/5. Novelty got worn off, fast.

Vehicle: Opel Astra
Introduction date: 1999

Vehicle: Porsche 911 and Boxster

Significance rating: 3/5. It has its fans and a cult following.

Vehicle: Toyota Echo
Introduction date: June 2000
After tiring people with Corollas, its time for Toyota to give them a breath of fresh air. Imported from Japan which caused to have a price higher than a top end Corolla. Since hatchbacks back then (pun not intended) aren't popular, it failed.
Significance rating: 2/5. Manufacturers learned their lessons from this failure.

Vehicle: Toyota Echo Verso
Introduction date: June 2000
A more larger sibling of the Echo is the Echo Verso. It had more space for both people and cargo and a larger engine. Same with its smaller sibling, it was imported from the Land of the Rising Sun which resulted to a stratospheric price and the end isn't as good.
Significance rating: 2/5. Another case of hatchback unappreciation.

Vehicle: Toyota RAV4
Introduction date: June 2000

Vehicles: Volkswagen Bora, Golf, Lupo, New Beetle, and Passat

A revamped Volkswagen line-up appeared in May 2000 that ditched the Spanish Polo Classic and replaced with a genuine German line-up. No wonder (except for the New Beetle) their popularity had become unknown.
Significance rating: 2/5. They aren't hits since the price isn't right.

Vehicle: Volvo S80
Introduction date: May 2000
The older sibling of the S60 and S40 that placed the S90 in the automotive graveyard is the S80. While it didn't stood a chance against the 5 Series and E Class overall, it had a fanbase among those who wanted a low profile image and a safe ride.
Significance rating: 3/5. Emphasis on safety is one thing about this car.
