The Ultimate Used Car Guide to give away cars this December

We're going to tell you in advance guys, we are celebrating our third anniversary this December and for the first time in Philippine (and possibly world history) that we are giving away  cars (yes, you heard it right) to one lucky chap on December 24, 8pm, in front of Quiapo Church.

Promo mechanics are this: Tell us in your most creative way on why do you deserve to win these cars for Christmas by uploading your video in Youtube and sending the link as a message. You may use any language (please provide a translation) and should be done in a maximum of 10 minutes.

The cars that we are going to give away are 5 Old New Stock Mazda RX-8 that were supposed to be sold but not pushed through due to some issues (not within the car). They have not been used since 2004 and they are stocked in a warehouse far far away in some secret place that had not been flooded and invaded by any politician or any real estate developer.

Get a chance to win one of five old new Mazda RX-8
We are giving away these cars and you are responsible for registering these cars under your name but do not worry they have clean titles and were not flooded ever since. Also, we will take care of transporting these vehicles to your place but we will not be the ones to make a parking lot at your area. Promo until December 1, 2014 and for more questions, you may view the cars in Mexico Road, Pampanga.

Promo is only available for the residents of the Philippines only. No Filipinos abroad joining here.

Ok guys, you know the drill. Happy April Fools!

I have a 1992 Acura Vigor. the clicking noise in the turn/hazard flasher will not stop clicking. The turn signals will not work, but the hazard lights do. I have changed the flasher relay and have changed all the bulbs, that didn''t help. Where do I look next?

Answer:

Replace the hazard switch and all will return to normal.

Used Car Review - Nissan Verita (2000-2007)

Today is April 1st and Myk Belmonte throws in a funky looking vehicle for this foolish day.

2000-2007 Nissan Verita

History
We mere mortals know the charm that a Mini Cooper (whether the British Motor Corporation built ones or the latest from BMW) can offer. It has boxy lines that will resist looking dated and for the girls, a laglag panty reaction when one sees a unit pass by.

The Micra lineage of vehicles (also known as the March) from Nissan can be traced back in 1982 starting from the K10 platform. The second generation under the K11 codename appeared 10 years later which became the basis of the Verita, launched in 1999 and also called as the Bolero. The Verita featured a different exterior and interior treatment which makes an ordinary variant go home.

Following the Toyota Echo, Nissan Motor Philippines (under Yulon's operation) launched the Verita in a time hatchbacks aren't ready to persuade customers wallets, yet. While the Echo got the axe in 2003, this one stayed a little longer until it was finally dropped in 2007, a period where the category is heating up.

Value and Costs
With just 2,000 units that were sold locally, finding one in the classifieds can be summarized in a single digit number units of them for sale, less than a Sentra of the same period. If you want one, prepare to shell between P200,000-P280,000 for a unit.

Thanks to a 1.3 engine, this is one fuel sipper in which you can enjoy the car while being economically conscious. One beef with this vehicle is the switchgear that fails especially it can be traced in the driver side power window buttons. So have it checked first or suffer the consequences.

Exterior and Interior
Love it or hate it, these are the reactions that you will blurt out when you lay your eyes upon this vehicle. Chrome (probably influenced by the Sentra Exalta STA) is evident throughout the vehicle from the door handles, bumper garnish, and other locations outside. The big news is the retro theme that resembles classic British vehicles from the 60s that can be reminiscent of the Toyota Classic.

It is a blast to the past when riding inside, whether you are driving or just a passenger. Wood treatments in the steering wheel and dashboard are nice touches; leather upholstery is everywhere which is a rarity in this class. Oh, let us not forget that it is versatile and can accommodate four people in a comfortable manner.

Engine
A CG13DE 1,275cc carrying 75hp at 6,000rpm and 99Nm at 4,000rpm is the sole option for the Verita. Mated to an automatic transmission, it does supply you adequate acceleration inside the city but comes short and breathless for overtaking situations. By the way, this is a fuel injected model and not something living in the carburetor age.

Driving Impressions
Jump in to the driver's seat and you'll be rewarded with an upright position, which is what the doctor ordered. To complete the luxurious touch the vehicle has to offer, drive it on a zen manner which is not always being in a rush.

Verdict
As they say, novelty wears off. Rare vehicles which may be unique from mainstream offerings have their own shelf life. The Verita has its own cult following but its time had passed by. If you prefer to be different from the rest, then this is the one.

The Good:
  • Easy to drive
  • Easy to maintain
  • Easy to make others smile
The Bad:
  • You will complain that it does not have a manual
  • You will complain of its appearance
  • You will complain if your friends tease you
The Pick: 1.3

first the check engine light comes on occasionally and then goes off

1999 Jeep Cherokee

I got a new(ish) Jeep over the weekend, previous owner beat the snot out of it and now I'm fixing a lot of small problems, got the list down to a few now, first the check engine light comes on occasionally and then goes off for awhile, I tried the flipping of the key and that didn't show any codes or anything then found the trip odometer trick for the newer jeeps and it didn't give any either so then I took it to the parts store and used their scanner and found p0505 and p0743. I found the p0505 is idle air control? and p0743 has something to do with the torque converter? any help with the next step would be appreciated!!! its a 1999 Jeep Cherokee classic(not grand) 4.0 auto 4wd with 225k on it... it was towed behind a motor home so who knows how many miles are really on it

Response:
How does the Jeep seem to run other than the codes? For example, does the idle seem normal? Does it do anything unusual, especially when the light is coming on?

Chrysler shifts tone on dealers

Automaker offers reinstatement to 50 stores, signals settlement talks with more

Finally, some movement at Chrysler.

After nearly a year of taking a hard line with rejected dealerships, Chrysler Group changed course last week and offered to reinstate 50 stores.

The company also said it will enter settlement talks with an unspecified number of rejected dealerships and disclosed that 36 already have been reinstated nationwide.

One thing hasn't changed, though. Chrysler still favors dealerships that sell all four of its brands: Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and the recently added Ram truck brand. All 50 offers of reinstatement are to stores selling all those brands.

But despite the actions by Chrysler, problems remain.

Dealer lawyers say Chrysler hasn't budged in its approach to arbitration -- for example, demanding that arbitrating dealers sign confidentiality agreements blocking them from sharing Chrysler information with other dealers.

One dealer who received a call from a Chrysler official saying a letter of intent for reinstatement was coming said he was taking a wait-and-see attitude.

"We're looking at it with guarded optimism," said the dealer, who declined to be identified. He remains skeptical because Chrysler had given no previous indication it had any interest in bringing back any rejected dealerships.

A company spokesperson said Chrysler would continue to explore "mutually beneficial options outside arbitration" to settle with dealers who have filed for arbitration.

By offering to reinstate the 50, Chrysler reduced its arbitration caseload to 337, said a company spokesperson.

Ed Tonkin, chairman of the National Automobile Dealers Association, called Chrysler's intention to reinstate 50 dealerships "a move in the right direction." This, coupled with previous contracts awarded to 36 other closed dealerships, brings the total to 86 dealerships that could be reinstated.

In U.S. Bankruptcy Court last year, Chrysler canceled 789 dealerships.

"NADA views this as a good-faith effort and hopes that this carries forward in Chrysler's continuing settlement and arbitration discussions with the other terminated dealers," Tonkin said.

Delays?

Eric Chase, an attorney representing four rejected Chrysler dealers, said the reinstatements do not change his opinion that the automaker won't give in easily on the remaining dealerships seeking arbitration. He said Chrysler has been "obstructive" at every phase of the arbitration process.

Chrysler's demand for a signed confidentiality pledge before it will agree to provide documents in discovery is prompting complaints from dealer lawyers accustomed to comparing notes on strategy.

The company also still is resisting dealers' efforts to find out the specific criteria used in terminating their stores -- information that Chrysler was required under law to provide in January, dealer lawyers said.

"Chrysler continues to resist and contest each and every step in arbitration," said Rob Byerts, a Tallahassee, Fla., lawyer whose firm represents 13 closed Chrysler dealerships. "It appears to be for no good reason other than delay."

Delays benefit Chrysler because if arbitrations aren't completed before the June 14 deadline set by Congress, the dealers lose their cases, said Mike Charapp, a McLean, Va., lawyer.

Chrysler's nine-page "Confidentiality Agreement and Order" -- a copy of which Automotive News obtained -- has touched off wrangling in dozens of arbitrations, seven dealer lawyers said.

Chrysler defended the confidentiality agreement.

"This is a standard request in litigation dealing with sensitive financial and competitive data," the company said in an e-mail last week.

It added that the new law setting up arbitration states that "discovery shall be limited to request for documents specific to the covered dealership."

Dealer lawyers disagreed, saying the standard approach in arbitration is to consider each particular document rather than the documents as a whole.

If a document deals with trade secrets or confidential business information, then it is addressed with the arbitrator, they said. But dealership performance documents rarely raise such sensitive issues.

Hearings in April

Meanwhile, the June 14 deadline looms over proceedings, although arbitrators have the discretion to extend them another month.

A total of 115 hearing dates, scheduled from April 21 into early June, had been set as of last week, said India Johnson, senior vice president of the American Arbitration Association, which is administering the cases.

Hundreds more have yet to be scheduled. The exact figure is a shifting number, as General Motors Co. and perhaps Chrysler move to reinstate dealerships.

A total of 1,550 GM and Chrysler arbitration claims have been filed, but GM has said it is reinstating 661 rejected dealerships and is willing to discuss possible settlement with as many as 499 more.

Johnson has little concern about the arbitrations meeting the congressional deadline. Said Johnson: "We have a lot of other arbitrators that we could throw at these cases."

I am unable to turn the immobiliser off

I have a Hyundai coupe w reg. It has a factory fitted immobiliser. I am unable to turn the immobiliser off, I can open the car with the keys, but when I try the ignition it is dead, nothing works, there are no lights when you open the door, everything is immobilized, how can I turn the immobiliser off so I can use the car, and take it to a garage.

ASNWER:

The immobiliser is integral with the cars ECU, and therefore cannot be switched off, it will need to be diagnosed and either repaired or reprogrammed using a JOBD diagnostic system, that has suitable software. Most good auto electrical engineers should have the correct equipment, and some of them also work mobile, so they may be able to get you up and running without you having to take it to them.

broken ignition on stering column

Question:

I have a 1996 Mercury Sable - broken ignition on steering column. What would average repair cost be?

Answer:

If the key is broken off in the lock cylinder, the replacement shouldn't take 15 minutes. See below for procedure. The cost should be around $75.00 parts included.
If the key won't go in the lock cylinder, then it will have to be drilled out and might take a couple hours, cost could be as high as $180.00

Functional Lock Cylinder
To Remove:
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Remove the upper and lower steering column covers.
3. Turn the ignition lock to the accessory position.
4. Insert a 0.125 (3.17mm) wire pin or small drift punch in the hole at the top of the cylinder housing and depress the retaining pin while pulling out the lock cylinder.

To Install:

1. Turn the new lock cylinder to the accessory position and while pressing the retaining pin in, insert the lock cylinder into the housing.
2. Turn the key to the OFF position to release the retaining pin.
3. Try the lock cylinder operation in all positions.
4. Reinstall the steering column covers.
5. Reconnect the battery ground cable.

2000 vw beetle has a problem with the battery draining after about three days

2000 VW Beetle
My 2000 VW beetle has a problem with the battery draining after about three days of normal use. Both the battery and alternator check out OK. Also have a problem with driver-side electric windows won't go up or down. Any ideas would be great.

Answer:

More than likely the harness going from the back of the alternator to the battery is faulty. Run the car with the radio, seat heaters, headlights, emergency lights, and rear window defroster on for 20 minutes with the hood closed. Then you need to put a voltmeter with one one lead on the positive battery post and the other on the large wire at the back of the alternator. That measurement should be around .06 volt. If it is over .1 volt the harness is faulty. You can buy one new from the dealer.

If I use regular oil (non synthetic) how often should I change my engine oil?

Until recently manufacturers and independent repair shops said you should change your oil and filter every 3,000 miles or 3 months whichever comes first.  Recently, manufacturers have stated that the oil should be changed every 7500 miles under “Normal” conditions.

This “Normal” condition statement, in my mind, is a winnie clause.  I say this because of how manufacturers define ‘Normal.”  “Normal Conditions:” engine at operating temperature (What does that mean?) at highway speeds, and in a dust free environment.

“Severe” condition is defined as: stop and go driving, trips of less than 10 miles, city driving, or extreme heat or cold.

Think about those two conditions…. Where in the USA will you be able to drive in “Normal Conditions?”  I can’t think of any, and for sure NOT in Chicago.

If you drive your car almost anywhere in the USA you will be driving in “Severe” conditions.  Therefore, you should change your oil and filter every 3,000 miles.

In Chicago I recommend you change your oil every 3,000 miles or 3 months.

Because dirt in your oil can cause severe wear, you are safer changing the oil and filter
too often rather than not often enough.
Your oil is your engine’s cesspool system.  The oil filter stores a limited amount of dirt.  Once you exceed the limit, the oil and dirt bypasses the filter allowing the dirt to cycle throughout your engine.  Nobody knows how much dirt is in the oil, and how quickly it accumulates.  When you get an oil, lube, filter change, mechanics do not inspect the oil filter- we don’t have the equipment to do so, nor would you want to pay for that inspection.  Therefore, we do not know if you really need a filter, or if you waited too long before it was changed.  To prevent severe wear and tear in your engine, you are much better off changing the filter too often rather than not often enough.

Every once in a while I get a car whose oil is rarely changed.  In these cases, the oil has solidified inside the engine.  There are small passageways the oil needs to flow through to properly lubricate your engine.  When the oil solidifies it will not flow through these passageways causing premature engine failure.

Some newer models have a “variable cam shaft.”  Using a variable cam, engineers have been able to increase horse power without increasing the size of your engine.  Oil is used to ‘vary the camshaft.’  If you don’t change your oil often enough, or you use the wrong viscosity oil, the passageways to the variable camshaft ‘plug’ and the shaft doesn’t “Vary.”  This causes the ‘Engine’ light to come on.

Changing the oil does NOT unplug the passageways.  The only way I know to unplug them is to put a thin metal rod, like a pipe cleaner, through these passageways. Sounds easy, but it is very expensive, and sometimes not even possible.

If you use the proper viscosity oil, and change it on a regular basis, you prevent clogging, and premature engine failure.

2000 Ford Windstar temperature control problem

When I move the temperature control nob all the way over to cold there is a clicking noise that comes from inside the temperature control panel. The clicking stops if I move it just a little bit toward warmer. Does anyone know what might be the problem?

Response:

1) Something blocking the Vent Door and striking the Fan Cage. Probably dropped down thru the Defroster on the dash. If you pull out the Blower Motor you can probably remove the item

2) This is a sign of a worn out Blend Door Actuator. This is quite common. Have it replaced and the noise should go away.

Where is the thermostat located on a 2001 Mitsubishi Spyder

Where is the thermostat located on a 2001 Mitsubishi Spyder GT 3.0 engine and can a Saturday mechanic replace one? Found the upper and lower hoses. Think the housing is at the end of the lower house on the engine, but not sure. It will probably be there because it is hard to get to.

Answer:
the thermostat will be located at the engine end of the upper hose at. They are a bit of work to replace but with a little time it should be doable.

PROTECT YOUR CAR WITH INSURANCE

Cheapest Car Insurance found on the Net
Premiums.

Personal responsibility drives how premiums are set: good drivers pay less and bad drivers continue to pay for their driving habits. Good, experienced drivers pay premiums in a competitive market that offers prices comparable to other western province.
Getting several quotes on insurance for a motor vehicle may save you hundreds of dollars a year. Other ways to reduce your insurance premium are:

1) Raise your deductibles on collision and comprehensive coverage's. If you have an old car, it may make sense to drop these coverage's altogether.
2) Take advantage of discounts. Some companies offer discounts to motorists who drive less than a certain amount of miles per year, are a student with good grades, have taken a safe-driving course or are over 50 years old. You might also be able to get discounts if you insure more than one vehicle, insure your vehicle and your home with the same company, have had no moving vehicle violations or accidents in three years, have anti-theft devices or have safety features such as air bags.

Coolant Leak - Land Rover

Customer Problem:
I have a 2002 Land Rover Discovery with a 4.0 L engine that only has 46,000 miles on it. It is leaking coolant and I can see it drip off the back of the valve cover at the rear of the passenger side but can not see or locate the source.

Solution:
Filled and pressure tested coolant system. After getting approval, removed the upper intake manifold to gain visual access and found the lower intake manifold gasket was leaking. Found after ordering the part from my local dealer that this is a common issue with this vehicle. Made the repair and customer is now happy!

GM Dex-Cool/ Intake Manifold Gasket Class Action

NATIONWIDE SETTLEMENT REACHED IN GM/DEX-COOL CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT

On March 20, 2008, the California Superior Court granted preliminary approval to the class action settlement reached with General Motors in the GM/Dex-Cool class action lawsuit. This settlement affects people who purchased or leased a "covered vehicle" anywhere in the United States other than Missouri. A separate settlement has been reached for those who purchased or leased their vehicle in Missouri, which will offer the same benefits but will be separately approved by a Missouri court.

The lawsuits were filed on behalf of owners of General Motors vehicles, which were factory-filled with "Dex-Cool" coolant. In summary, the lawsuits alleged that Dex-Cool degraded certain vehicles’ intake manifold gaskets and other engine sealability components, and that in certain other vehicles, Dex-Cool formed a rusty sludge, clogging the vehicles’ cooling systems and causing vehicles to overheat.

Terms of the Settlement:

You may be eligible to receive between $50 and $800 in cash reimbursement under the settlement if you have paid for a covered repair by May 30, 2008, and if you submit a claim by October 27, 2008. If you paid for multiple covered repairs, you may be eligible to receive multiple cash reimbursements provided you submit a separate claim for each repair.

Click here to view and print a copy of the Settlement Claim Form.

COVERED VEHICLES
Vehicles covered under the settlement are divided into three groups. Each group of vehicles is listed below, followed by the covered repairs, for which cash reimbursement is available under the settlement.
Note: If you own one of the models listed below, but (i) with a different engine size than what is listed, or (ii) the vehicle was manufactured using a lower intake manifold gasket other than a nylon/silicone gasket, or (iii) the vehicle is a Group A vehicle manufactured after April 9, 2003, then you are not covered by the settlement and are not eligible to file a claim.

Frequently Asked Questions & Responses about the Dex-Cool Class Action Lawsuit:
1. What cash reimbursements are available?2. How do I make a claim?3. Do I have to be the original owner in order to file a claim?4. Am I still eligible to file a claim if I no longer own my vehicle?5. I have had a Dex-Cool related problem but I have not had it repaired yet. Can I still participate in this settlement?
1. What cash reimbursements are available?
Under the proposed Settlement, GM will send cash reimbursements to class members who paid for Covered Repairs performed within seven years or 150,000 miles (whichever is earlier) after the original owner or lessee took delivery of the vehicle, and who submit timely and valid claims.
The amount of reimbursement for which you may be eligible depends on (i) when the Covered Repair was performed and (ii) the amount you actually paid, as described below:
(a.) For a Covered Repair made within five years after initial vehicle delivery:You may be eligible to be reimbursed the documented amount you paid out-of-pocket up to $400, if you were not previously fully reimbursed.
However, if you can document that the Covered Repair required you to pay over $1,500 to address an internal coolant leak, your reimbursement level may be different. If so, you can elect to request reimbursement of 40% of the amount you paid out-of-pocket up to $800, if you were not previously fully reimbursed.
(An internal coolant leak means that coolant leaked from one vehicle component into another component. Whereas an external coolant leak means that coolant leaked from inside a vehicle component to the exterior of the vehicle.)

What does President Obama Drive ?

2008 Ford Escape Hybrid

President Obama tossed his Chrysler aside for a 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid. Is this a sign that he needs more head room, he supports Union workers, or maybe he just likes the extra cargo space?

The 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid receives a bolder, rugged design, higher beltline, raised hood and a new front fascia with headlights that sweep up toward the front corners of the vehicle to short side marker lights. The interior features seating surfaces comprised of 100 percent post-industrial materials, a revised dashboard with “a top of dash” display, Electric Power Assisted Steering system, and Ice Blue interior lighting. Also, the improved center console is large enough to hold a laptop computer and it can also be removed and hung from the front passenger side and rear of the console for additional storage. A number of updates have been made to reduce noise, vibration and harshness levels inside the SUV including changes to the roof panel for a better airflow, a new acoustic laminate sandwiched between two glass panels in the windshield and new carpeting.

Toyota creates team for U.S. quality and recalls

Toyota's North America production and engineering company said today it has formed a Quality Task Force to help restore Toyota's quality reputation.

A key part of it: asserting U.S. consumer interests on future safety recall issues.

The U.S. group will be headed up by Steve St. Angelo, executive vice president of Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America Inc. in Erlanger, Ky.

Dino Triantafyllos, vice president of quality in Erlanger, has been given the task of improving how Toyota manages product safety issues.

The move is part of Toyota Motor Corp. CEO Akio Toyoda's efforts to regroup in the wake of a massive global product recall and U.S. Congressional hearings into Toyota safety problems.

Toyota's handling of consumer concerns was a hot issue during government hearings on the recalls this month. Congressmen, as well as litigants now involved in several consumer lawsuits against Toyota, have claimed that Toyota knew of U.S. problems with unintended acceleration in some models long before taking action to correct them.

Triantafyllos has been tasked with speeding up safety-related discussions through Toyota in North America, improving the way Toyota addresses them and playing a “key role in decision-making with regard to recalls,” according to a statement released today by Toyota in Erlanger.

Handling complaints

During this month's Congressional hearings, Toyota was chided for the way North American safety complaints were handled. Senior Toyota officials acknowledged that all recall decisions were made in Japan and that U.S. executives had no authority to order recalls.

“The aim of our new quality task force is to assure that all of us in North America listen and respond to the voice of the customer,” Triantafyllos said in the statement. “My primary responsibility is to assure that we utilize all of the data at our disposal and that we promptly decide the appropriate action.”

St. Angelo met today with presidents from all of Toyota's North American vehicle and parts operations at Toyota's Georgetown, Ky., assembly plant, where he holds the additional title of president.

He will fly this weekend to Japan, where on March 30 Akio Toyoda will convene a newly created Special Committee for Global Quality. St. Angelo has been tapped to represent all North American quality improvements for the committee, which reports directly to Toyoda.

Toyoda's mandate

“The new organization will open the lines of communication globally and enable us to respond faster here in North America to any concerns about our vehicles,” St. Angelo said in the statement.

“In keeping with Akio Toyoda's mandate, North America will have greater autonomy and play a critical role in decision making on recalls and other safety issues.”

The company's Erlanger task force also will work with former U.S. Transportation Secretary Rodney Slater. Slater was asked this month to lead a separate and independent North American Quality Advisory Panel to advise St. Angelo and the Kentucky group on improvements. Slater and Toyota will appoint other members to the outside panel.

Roaring Noise in Front End

Customer Problem:

I have a 2004 Saturn Vue with a V6 engine. When I drive I hear a roaring noise coming from the front end. It makes the noise all the time even if I brake. It seems to get worse if I turn or go around a curve.

Solution:

After a quick test Drive to confirm the issue, It was exactly as Suspected. The Front Wheel Hub Bearings were causing the noise. Replaced the front hub bearings and the noise is gone. The cost of the repair was $327.00 per side having used Timken hub bearings as they have a lifetime warranty. Customer is happy!

2002 Subaru WRX with 125k. The check engine light recently came on

I have a 2002 Subaru WRX with 125k. The check engine light recently came on and my mechanic is saying that one of the four cylinders is failing. Note that this mechanic performed at 60k tune-up. He is suggesting that at a minimum I replace the failed head and that I should probably do both considering the small increase in labor at that point. I'm willing to have the work done, but am concerned that the perhaps this isn't the actual problem?

Answer:

I would not commit to a head(S) as 125k and being a Subaru. Rarely are the heads a problem. I would get the trouble code and CLEAR explanation as to why they want to replace head. There could be so many other min- minor things affecting the cyl. I would def get a second opinion. I am not ruling out a possible headgasket etc.. but.. this is a big job, lots of $ and does warrant a clear/ accurate explanation as to why they are quoting this work

Air Conditioning Compressor Clutch will not engage

You start your car and set the Air Conditioning to maximum and yet it does not blow out cold air. You pop the hood and the the Air Conditioning Compressor Clutch will not engage, so lets figure out why not. With the ignition key on, unplug the low pressure switch (clutch cycling switch) and place a jumper wire across the connector. The switch is generally located on the side of the accumulator. If the compressor clutch does not click in then you need to check for Battery Voltage at the connector first. Read More >

No power at fuel pump

Question:
I replaced fuel pump on 01 Chevy s-10 4.3 checked relay and fuses still get no power, have any idea how to fix this ?

Answer:
Lets start withe the "ECM B" Fuse (the most common cause) It is in the under hood fuse block, it is a 20 amp fuse. Make certain the fuse is good and have battery voltage on both side with the key on. If the fuse is OK, move to the next step.

Now you need to see battery voltage at the orge wire of the relay and at the dark green/ whte wire. and you should see ground at the blk wire. When you turn the key on you should also see battery voltage at the gray wire ... if you do not, the relay is bad. If you do, then you need to check for power at the fuel pump.. if you do not have power at the pump on the gray wire still, then you will need to repair the wiring/ replace the wire.
Make sure you have a good ground on the black wire coming from the pump.
That is all there is to the circuit. If you do not see power to the drk green wire, you need to check the plug at the ecm( computer ) if it is OK along with the wire, you will need to replace the computer.

Electronic Engine Controls and Sensors | Testing Procedures

All Sequential Fuel Injection (SFI) systems use the EEC system. The heart of the EEC system is a microprocessor called the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The PCM receives data from a number of sensors and other electronic components (switches, relays, etc.). Based on information received and information programmed in the PCM's memory, it generates output signals to control various relays, solenoids and other actuators. The PCM in the EEC system has calibration modules located inside the assembly that contain calibration specifications for optimizing emissions, fuel economy and driveability. The calibration module is called a PROM.

Chrysler to launch electric Fiat 500 minicar

Fiat 500 Electric minicar

Chrysler Group said today that it plans to build an electric version of the Fiat 500 minicar for sale in the United States beginning in 2012.

Chrysler said the electric 500 will use an "advanced" lithium ion battery pack but did not give any technical specifications of the car, which will be sold as a Fiat model.

The company said the car's pricing will be announced closer to launch and will be competitive with similar electric vehicles in the market.

At the Detroit auto show in January, where a concept of an electric Fiat 500 was unveiled, Fiat and Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne said the concept would sell for about $32,000 if it went on the market, of which $16,000 covered the cost of the batteries.

Chrysler did not announce a production target for the 500EV. Marchionne said in November that Chrysler plans to produce about 56,000 electric vehicles annually by 2014.

Chrysler said all powertrain engineering and vehicle development for the 500EV will take place at the company headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan.

Chrysler is the vehicle electrification center of competence for both Chrysler Group and Fiat Group.

Scott Kunselman, Chrysler's senior vice president of engineering, said the alliance with Fiat presented opportunities to merge Chrysler engineering knowledge with new platforms from Fiat.

“The Fiat 500EV is an outstanding example of our efforts: the Fiat 500 is a small, lightweight platform perfect for integrating electric-vehicle technology,” Kunselman said in a statement.

Chrysler will launch U.S. sales of the Fiat 500 powered by a 1.4-liter gasoline engine in December. The car will be built in Mexico for the North American market. In Europe, Fiat revived the 500, an iconic car of the post-war years, in 2007.

Fiat S.p.A., which owns 20 percent of Chrysler, said, “We are currently evaluating the commercial potential of this electric car for Europe.”

Fiat's rivals in Europe, Peugeot and Citroen, will begin selling electric cars in European markets by the end of the year. Renault will follow in 2011 and Volkswagen in 2013.

Your Engine Oil

There are two basic types of engine oils-Regular and synthetic.  Synthetic oil can be used in all cars, but regular oil cannot be used in cars which require synthetic oil.
There are two other factors which differentiate oil:
Viscosity:  viscosity is a measure of the oil’s ability to flow.  As the temperature drops, oil tends to thicken like molasses, and as the temperature rises, oil tends to thin-out like water.  You need oil to flow through your engine when it is zero degrees outside and when it is 100 degrees outside.
Oil manufacturers added chemicals to their oil so the oil maintains a consistent viscosity through a wide range of temperatures.  Oil companies label their oils, such as 5W30 or 05W20 so you/me know the viscosity.  The automobile manufacturers require specific viscosity oils for their cars.
The lower number refers to the ability of the oil to properly flow at low temperatures, and the high number represents the ability of the oil to properly flow at high temperatures.  It would have been nice if those numbers represented degrees Celsius or degrees Fahrenheit, but they do not.  In Chicago a “5” as the lower number is adequate all winter long.  In areas where the temperature gets well below zero, Valvoline makes a ‘0’ weight oil.  In Chicago a ‘30’ weight oil is adequate for our summers.
For reasons not known to me, there are some cars which require 5W20 oils.  Even though the upper number is ’20,’ these oils are fine for Chicago summers.  The proper viscosity oil for car is always in the owner’s manual, and often found on the oil fill cap.  Most of the time, but not always, if your car needs synthetic oil it will say so under the hood.
The last of the equation is the version of the oil.  Oil companies have made tremendous advances in their oil.  When there is a change it is indicated by the letter following the viscosity range.  I don’t know the current letter.  I don’t need to know since I buy Valvoline oil and they always bring me the latest version.  The latest version can always be used in older cars, but you should not use older versions in newer cars.  If you buy oil from any respectable retailer you will be getting the latest and greatest version.  I point this out in the event a friend of yours offers you the oil which has been sitting on the shelf of his garage for the last 10 years.  This ten year old oil, may not be the best for your car.
Other notes on oil:
The oil manufacturers add other chemicals to their oils.  They add a chemical which isolates water.  Without this additive the water would tend to cause rust inside your engine.  They add an anti-foaming agent.  Without this additive the oil would foam-up inside you engine.  This might sound cool, but your oil pump cannot pump foam, it can only pump a liquid.  And you would not be able to drive very long without being pumped insides your engine.  They have also added friction modifiers to increase gas mileage.
Next week I will share with you why I recommend you change your ‘regular’ oil every 3,000 miles – and why the manufacturers might say something different, but add a weenie clause to their initial recommendation.

Used Car Review - Honda Jazz (2008-Current)

You're graduating and you want your own set of wheels as a present, Myk Belmonte gives you a suggestion.

2008-Current Honda Jazz

History
With manufacturers getting obsessed in extracting much space in a small vehicle, there are tons of magic tricks here at the expense of compromising one aspect of the vehicle. Honda had done it especially on the part of making the passenger feel at home.

Debuting at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show, the second generation Jazz became more larger in length, fixed the chassis to a stiff one, and made way for a hybrid engine. The basics which made the Jazz a household name when it comes to interior flexibility. For the second time, it won the Car of the Year Japan award when it was introduced. September 2013 saw the launch of the third generation Jazz in its home market.

Late 2008 saw the arrival of the second generation Jazz to the Philippine market. It gained more length at the expense of a huge price increase (near rivals of the same displacement cost a hundred grand less) but still the benchmark of all hatches, despite the arrival of new entrants. It is available in S (1.3 only) and V (has the 1.5 engine standard) models but special edition models in Modulo and Mugen flavors are available. By the time you read this, a third generation model will be launched in the Philippines by this year.

Value and Costs
You may not need to proceed to a Honda dealer just to get a brand new unit especially changes were minimal (unless you count the color palette updates). Early units would cost P440,000 - basically half the price of a brand new one - while latest models are priced at the tune of P700,000 with units sold from May 2011 onward having a remainder of their warranty. Do take note Japan imported models were introduced in February 2012 having a slight difference in standard equipment while models wearing either Modulo or Mugen body kits were made as an option later that year.

Keeping this baby would not necessitate the need to sell your liver and kidney. When it comes to parts they are obtainable and attainable. A recall that involved units manufactured between September 2008 until April 2010 for their spring which may cause friction and noise in the engine if not performed, may put the engine to failure.

Exterior and Interior
We imagine this: Honda engineers giving the Jazz some growing pills and vola, the length of the vehicle was stretched. The 1.3 models were conservative looking while the 1.5 gets aggressive looking body kits and the base of the overpriced Mugen variant. Besides, the exterior speaks for itself until we lead to the next paragraph.

The famed three cargo configurations are still retained which is a strength. Put the seats up for the humans with some space for their luggage while fold them down for some serious business (which is, ehem, hauling cargo). Control layout is on the logical side, placed within reach of the driver.

Engine
The second generation Jazz gave a new engine technology for the L13A 1,339cc carrying 100hp at 6,000rpm and 127Nm at 4,800rpm: the VTEC technology. The other option is the L15A 1,496cc which dishes out 120hp at 6,600rpm and 145Nm at 4,800rpm. The 1.3 engine, despite having VTEC, would fit the city landscape especially going fast with a full load isn't its habitat. The 1.5 gives you that extra power whenever needed although the engine may get strained, it is less evident.

Driving Impressions
Good thing it retains the driving dynamics the previous model has. It loves to be tossed around the twisties at the expense of a firm ride and noise intruding the cabin. The latter can be experienced when the driver goes fast enough.

Verdict
There is no other hatchback that can balance fun moments and doubles practicality. The Honda Jazz can still acquit itself despite the influx of new competitors.

The Good:
  • The space master
  • Easy to drive
  • Reliable
The Bad:
  • Firm ride
  • Some road noise
  • Not that fuel efficient than the model it replaced
The Pick: 1.5 V

Engine dies at low speed around 20-25

Question:
I have a 1994 Dodge Caravan 3.0 litre dies at low speed around 20-25 mph and especially it seems on turns in shopping centers. Just shuts off with no warning, no hesitation, starts right back up again. It does it sparatically. My Mechanic again today says it may be wiring? He changed previously the TPS which showed on codes as bad. Today I had him replace the in-line gas filter. He also today pulled and plugged a vacuum line next to the EGR valve to test for a few days? By the way, this started right after they pulled and and replaced the rebuilt trans.

Answer:
There are a couple of things that come to mind,
First is the crank shaft position sensor may be going bad or may have been improperly installed, these sensors require a paper spacer be placed on them during installation, if the spacer was not put on when they reinstalled it in the bell housing and it was resting on the flex plate when they started it up it would have made a noise and then they may have backed it out until the noise stopped, if the flex plate hit it, it is bad, if the spacer was not used the air gap setting may be incorrect causing an intermittent read, the crank sensor should be inspected and replaced if needed
Next the engine harness may have been pulled off of its tabs and be touching or very close to the exhaust crossover pipe and shorting out on corners, or being partially melted by the pipe, this harness is under the flexible hose that connects the top of the air cleaner to the throttle body and should be clipped or wire tied in place up near the throttle body, if it is down on or near the crossover pipe it should be inspected for damage and repaired as needed
also next to the battery near the engine controller is the harness that comes off the engine controller, this harness wraps around the corner of the battery and if the battery is oversize or loose it will damage this harness causing any number of issues.

'96 Tahoe DRL

My '96 Tahoe Daytime Running Lights quit. The indicator lamp on the dash is on and goes out when I press the parking brake and comes back on when I release it.

The headlight work and the manual says the DRL uses the headlights at a reduced level.

I checked the fuse to the DRL relay and it's OK. Can't find the relay though. The manual shows the fuses and relays for other things but not the DRL relay.

Anyone have a suggestion ?

Response:

Pushing on the parking brake is supposed to shut off the DRL, so you don't have to sit with your lights on when you are parked with the motor running as in winter (heat) or summer (a/c). I've had the DRL go out on my '99 Savana only to return later. I'm usually unaware if they're working or not because it's daytime and I'm not a big fan of DRL except on motorcycles where I believe they're necessary.

Idling rough and spits and spudders

Question:

I have a 2001 Oldsmoblie Alero GX and it is idling rough and spits and sputters going down the road ,but not all the time. Got any answer of what it might be? I put it on scanner and it was saying something of a low spark issue and there isn't any check engine lights or anything lit up on dash.

Answer:

Sounds to me like it needs a good tune up. A new set of plugs should help it out quite a bit. If the check engine light is on there may be a different issue that will require the use of a scan tool to get the codes. http://www.freeautomechanic.com/scantools.html

My Electric Power Seats are not working?

Power Seat Wiring Diagram

The power motor that operates the up down motion on the front of the passenger seat is not functioning on my 2000 Silverado. IS this common and what are my options?

Answer:
The seat motors can bind up if run all the way up or down. First check for a blown fuse. It is easy enough to turn the drive with pliers to free it up. If it doesn't turn it is bound. Remove the motor and try to turn it again. If it still doesn't turn then the seat base will need replaced. If it does turn plug the motor in and test it to see if it runs. If the motor does run it may be week from a bad armature or worn brushes. If the motor doesn't run check for power and ground at the motor connector. If it has power and ground the motor is no good. If it doesn't have power and ground The module is probably no good. Verify power and ground at the module before you condemn it.

Question:

Answer:

Acording to the factory service manual the preferred viscosity is 5w-30 and Honda Motor Oil is recommended. It is proven that synthetic motor oil is better than regular motor oil but if you change your oil every 3,000 miles regular motor oil should be just fine.
